01

Turns any HDMI display into signage

An Android or Google TV device behind the screen is a low-cost way to run signage on displays without a good browser.

02

Same pairing flow

The device shows a code like 8FJ2-KP9. Enter it in your dashboard and the screen is live.

03

Plays from local storage

Content is downloaded and checked on the device, so playback continues through network outages.

04

Managed from anywhere

See status, take screenshots, refresh, restart, clear cache and set volume remotely.

Set up an Android or Google TV screen

Android and Google TV devices are the second supported player platform after the browser. Connect the device to your display by HDMI, connect it to your network, and open the DigitalSign player. The screen shows a pairing code such as 8FJ2-KP9. Add a screen in your dashboard, enter the code, and pick its location and orientation. The player downloads its assigned content and begins playing within moments.

  • Connect by HDMI and join the network
  • Open the player and note the code
  • Enter the code in the dashboard
  • Assign a playlist or schedule

Offline cache and remote commands

The player fetches a manifest, downloads each asset, validates checksums and stores everything on the device before it plays. When the network drops, it keeps running the current schedule from local storage and syncs once it reconnects. From the dashboard you can see each device's status, player version, resolution and last heartbeat, take a screenshot, refresh, restart the player, clear the cache, change volume or mute.

  • Checksum-validated local cache
  • Schedules keep running offline
  • Status, version and last heartbeat
  • Screenshot, refresh, restart, clear cache, volume

Choosing an Android device

Look for a current Android TV or Google TV device that supports 4K output if your display does, with 2 GB of RAM or more and enough storage for your video content. A device with an Ethernet port, or a supported adapter, gives a more reliable connection than Wi-Fi. Mount it where it gets airflow, use the display's own power where possible, and disable sleep and screensaver settings.

  • 4K output to match your display
  • 2 GB of RAM or more
  • Wired Ethernet when possible
  • Sleep and screensaver disabled

FAQ

Android & Google TV: common questions

Which Android devices work with DigitalSign?

Current Android TV and Google TV devices are supported. Choose one with 2 GB of RAM or more and 4K output if your display supports it.

Do I need a special signage-grade Android box?

No. Consumer Android TV and Google TV devices work. Commercial devices can be easier to mount and power, but they are not required.

Does the Android player work offline?

Yes. Content is stored on the device and keeps playing from that cache until the connection returns.

Can I restart an Android player remotely?

Yes. Restart the player, refresh, take a screenshot, clear cache and change volume from the dashboard.

Can I use the browser player on Android instead?

Yes. Any Android device with a modern browser can open player.digitalsign.co, though the dedicated player is the better choice for unattended screens.
