LG webOS digital signage: on the DigitalSign roadmap

A native app for LG webOS displays is on our roadmap, alongside Samsung Tizen. Today, connect an Android or Google TV device to the LG display and run DigitalSign right away, with offline cache and remote control.

01

Status: roadmap

A native webOS app is planned for later. It is not available yet.

02

Your LG display works today

Plug an Android or Google TV device into its HDMI port and pair it like any DigitalSign screen.

03

Browser player may work too

Some LG displays include a capable browser that can open player.digitalsign.co. Test it on your model first.

04

Keep the same screen later

When a native app arrives, pair it to your existing screen and keep its content and schedule.

Running an LG display today

A native webOS app is on the roadmap but not available. The supported way to run an LG display today is to connect an Android or Google TV device to one of its HDMI inputs and run the DigitalSign player on that device. The screen shows a pairing code such as 8FJ2-KP9; enter it in your dashboard and the display starts playing. Portrait LG displays work the same way: set the orientation in the dashboard.

  • Browser player: test on your model
  • Portrait and landscape orientation

Offline playback and remote control

The Android player behind your LG display downloads a manifest of its assigned content, validates each file with checksums, stores it locally and plays from that cache. If the network or server goes away, the schedule keeps running. From the dashboard, check status and last heartbeat, take a screenshot, refresh, restart the player, clear cache and set volume. Display power control depends on HDMI control support.

Setup tips for LG displays

Set the display to power on to the HDMI input the player uses, and turn off its screensaver and energy-saving sleep. For portrait installs, mount the display in portrait and set the screen's orientation in DigitalSign so designs render the right way up. Choose a 4K-capable panel for content read from a distance, and give the player device 2 GB of RAM or more and wired Ethernet when possible.

  • Power on to the player's HDMI input
  • Disable display sleep and screensaver
  • Set portrait orientation in the dashboard
  • Wired Ethernet for the player device

How it works

Live on screen in three steps

  1. 1

    Add an Android device

Connect it to the LG display's HDMI input.

  2. 2

    Pair the screen

Enter the on-screen code in your dashboard.

  3. 3

    Go native later

Pair a native webOS app to the same screen when it is available.

FAQ

LG webOS: common questions

Not yet. A native webOS app is on the roadmap. Today, use an Android or Google TV device connected to the display.

Can I use the browser built into my LG display?

Some models can open player.digitalsign.co, but built-in browsers vary. Test it first, or use an Android device for reliability.

When will webOS be supported?

It is planned alongside Samsung Tizen, after our other players. There is no release date yet.

Do portrait LG displays work?

Yes. Mount the display in portrait and set the screen's orientation in the dashboard so content renders correctly.
